Iron Panel (TIBC)
The Iron Panel or Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) is a group of blood tests that measures the levels of iron and other proteins involved in iron metabolism in the body. These tests are used to evaluate the body’s ability to transport and store iron, and to diagnose and monitor conditions related to iron deficiency or excess.
The TIBC is typically ordered when an individual has symptoms of iron deficiency or excess, such as fatigue, weakness, or pallor. It may also be ordered as part of a routine health screening or to monitor the effectiveness of treatment for iron-related conditions, such as iron-deficiency anemia. The results of the TIBC can help guide appropriate treatment and management of iron-related conditions.
